I wanted to share information about a Twitter party Dan and I executed last month. This is one of a series of Twitter promotions we have executed that expand the idea of a traditional “Twitter party”. We partnered with http://pigeonsandplanes.com/ to host a live tweet up from FYF Fest, an annual music festival in Downtown, LA. This was an all day giveaway that incorporated an off-line experience.

To make this execution run as smooth as possible, we preloaded approximately 30 tweets to go out on each account from noon till 9:00 PM.  This was then supplemented by live tweeting from the festival by both the editor of the host site for @PigsandPlanes and myself for @SidralMundet with updates and pictures. Dan held down home base at a computer and monitored the party, responded to participants, and pushed out more prizing tweets.  Our goal was to interact with those at the festival, and allow those not at the festival to follow our accounts and get a taste for the action. Not only did each tweet contain #Sidralmundet, but also #FYFFest, which we anticipated would be trending during the concert

All in all it was a great success! Piggybacking off a popular hashtag really drove up the number of unique participants. Also, running an extending twitter party in this fashion allowed us to collect tweets well beyond the standard 2-3 hour period.
